Product Overview

The Intel Core i7-8700 is a processor with 6 physical cores that comes from the eighth generation of Intels Core i7 series. The Intel Core i7-8700 is manufactured using the 14 nanometer process and is based on the Coffee Lake architecture from Intels CPU program. The processor was launched in the fourth quarter of 2017, just in time for the Christmas business.

The 6 processor cores have a standard clock rate of 3.20 gigahertz, but increases in turbo mode up to 4.30 gigahertz with multi-core utilization and up to 4.60 gigahertz with single-core utilization. The processor cannot be overclocked, but the Intel Core i7-8700 supports Intels hyperthreading technology, which turns the 6 physical cores into 12 logical cores if necessary. This allows more arithmetic operations to be carried out at the same time.

The processor has an internal graphics unit. The Intel UHD Graphics 630 has 24 execution units (EUs = Execution Units) with which you support both DirectX in version 12.0 and OpenGL in version 4.5. The standard clock of the graphics unit is 350 megahertz and the dynamic clock frequency is up to 1.20 gigahertz. The image output on up to 3 monitors in parallel operation is also supported. The maximum resolution via the HDMI output is 4096x2304 @ 24Hz and via the DisplayPort 4096x2304 @ 60Hz.

The Intel Core i7-8700 officially supports DDR4 type RAM with a clock frequency of up to 2666 megahertz. A maximum of 128 gigabytes of RAM can be controlled via the 2 available memory channels.

The supported socket LGA 1151-2 shows us that this is a desktop processor. You therefore need a corresponding main board and, if you dont want to use a boxed fan, a corresponding processor fan.
