Product Overview

The Intel Core i5-8400 is an eighth generation processor from Intels Core i5 series. This i5 processor consists of 6 physical cores which have a base clock frequency of 2.80 gigahertz each. The maximum turbo clock frequency is 4.00 gigahertz when a single processor core is loaded and still at 3.8 gigahertz when all 6 cores are loaded.

The Intel Core i5-8400 is used in many prefabricated systems and some notebooks, but is also available as a single component for building a self-made PC. If you decide to build it yourself, you must ensure that the "LGA 1151-2" socket is installed on the mainboard. The same applies to the selection of the cooler.

The "Intel UHD Graphics 630" from generation 10.5 is used as the graphics unit in the Intel Core i5-8400. This graphics unit has 24 execution units and DirectX version 12.0 and OpenGL version 4.5. Image output on up to 3 monitors is also supported. A resolution of 4096 x 2304 @ 24Hz is supported via an HDMI port and 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz via the DisplayPort. The basic clock frequency of the graphics processor is 350 megahertz and the maximum dynamic clock frequency is 1.05 gigahertz. The maximum video memory is 63 gigabytes.

With its 2 available memory channels, the Intel Core i5-8400 supports DDR4 memory modules with up to 2666 megahertz. The 9 megabyte L3 cache accelerates data traffic between the main memory and the processor.

PCI-Express is available in version 3.0 and the 16 built-in PCIe lines enable various additional cards to be connected.

The processor comes from Intels "Coffee Lake" architecture and is manufactured using the 14 nanometer process. The Intel Core i5-8400 was released in the fourth quarter of 2017.
